POTD - 1/21/07
Week 3 of this challenge was to show your hometown. Week 4 is about water. I thought for my POTD for the 21st, I'd combine the two. I was standing near the confluence of the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers in this picture. I love the combination of the city and the river. I didn't do anything to this picture. Its SOOC.
I've been bad...
I haven't updated in over a week. The weather has been really crappy and I didn't get out to take pictures like I wanted too. First we had a ton of rain and then it turned really, really cold. I'm glad it wasn't cold while it was raining b/c we would have had at least 30 inches of snow. Instead, we just got a soggy backyard.

POTD - 1/15/2007
Today starts week 3 of the challenge: "show us your hometown". I live 4 hours away from my hometown so I'm going to show you around the city I moved to 5 years ago. I consider this my home now.
I live in the capital of my state. Saturday, we inagurated our new governor. We didn't realize this was going on until we ran into a bunch of cops on horseback. They were lined up down the block and it looked really cool. I took the following picture from my car. We were going to stop but it was cold and rainy and we didn't have an umbrella and we weren't wearing warm enough clothes. The pictures are blurry but you'll have that when you've driving by at 20 mph.

POTD - 1/14/2007
Today's the last day of "get to know you" week. I really haven't posted many pictures to try to describe myself so I'm going to today. One of my favorite pasttimes is reading. I've been a voracious reader since 2nd grade. I have so many books right now that I'm out of bookshelf space to put them. I have a big pile in a corner of my scrapbooking room and more in boxes that I didn't unpack after I moved in September of 2005. Here are some pictures of my bookshelves. My cat, Boots, didn't want to get out of the way in the one picture.

Maxi was mad that I was too busy taking pictures of my books instead of paying attention to her. I tried to get her to look at me but she was too busy stalking Boots. I swear I live in a zoo.

POTD - 1/13/2007: Orton technique - attempt 2
I'm posting this one a little early. I messed around with the Orton technique again. This time with a picture from our trip to Lake Cumberland. I think I'm in love with this. Its so easy and I love how the results look. I did adjust the levels on the final picture just a little. I thought it was a little too dark.

POTD - 1/12/2007: Orton Technique Attempt 1
There was a post on the General Photography board about the Orton Technique so I thought I'd give it a shot. The picture I used was way too dark and I didn't mess with the settings at all but here's my first attempt. I'm going to have fun playing with this.

POTD - 1/9/2007
Ok, so I'm already a day late. I was spending time with my boyfriend, D, last night. We haven't gotten to spend much time together in the past few days so I took advantage of the time last night. That's more important than pictures, right?
Since this is introduce yourself week, here are some pictures of my favorite things: cows. I've had this "thing" for cows since jr. high. I think they remind me of my childhood. My uncle lived at the end of a really long road. We had to drive through some really dark woods to get there. I could tell when we were finally close to his house b/c the trees would end and his cows would be on both sides of the road. I loved going to my uncle's house. He was really good with us kids.
I started collecting different cow things sometime during high school. My old boyfriend's mom even brought home anything cow related that she could find at her Goodwill job. Over time, my collection got smaller until just my favorite things remained. This cow has a special place of honor in our living room. D found it at a local shop and got it for my birthday in 2005. The photo was taken in auto mode.
This picture was taken on our trip to Lake Cumberland, KY last November. We were visiting a Civil War battlefield and there were a bunch of cows nearby so of course I had to take a picture of them. I feel like this picture could be enhanced a little bit but I'm not sure what to do. I tried a color boost action that I downloaded off the internet but it didn't seem to do much. Any suggestions?

POTD for 1/8/2007

Ok, so here it goes for my first post in the 2007 POTD challenge. This week, we're supposed to introduce ourselves. What better way to do that than by posting a picture of myself. Its a really bad picture that I took in the mirror in mid-December. I had just had my hair cut and eyebrows waxed (my b-day present to myself) and I was feeling cute. I'm going to be slow with pictures for the first couple of weeks while I figure out exactly what I'm doing so you'll have to bear with me.

The beginning..
I started scrapbooking about 7 years ago while in college. As my interest in scrapbooking grew, so did my interest in photography. I recently got a new camera so I can start practicing taking better photos.
While browsing through the General Photography message board on TwoPeas, I noticed a photo of the day challenge. What better way for me to jump in and start working with my camera.
My pictures won't be the greatest to start. Hopefully by the end of the year, you'll see a huge improvement.
